Ford’s Theatre Society

Ford’s Theatre joined the worldwide platform Google Arts and Culture, allowing people around the world to take a virtual tour of the historic site, learn about its past, and explore its collection.

Shortly after I started at Ford’s Theatre, the institution had the opportunity to join Google Arts & Culture. I led the effort.

A view onto a stage in a recreated theater from the 1800s, including a U.S. flag to the right and fancy Victorian furniture and curtains.

What I Did

Collaborated with stakeholders

Initiated communication with Google and served as point of contact.

Collaborated with the National Park Service to arrange for Street View captures inside Ford’s Theatre, allowing visitors to virtually access spaces one cannot in real life (like the Presidential Box).

Led content development

Directed interns who uploaded collection items to the platform.

Directed interns who created online exhibitions, laying out the content scope and editing the final product.

Added hotspots to the original Museum View.

Expanded content usage

Added Ford’s Theatre to Google’s array of virtual reality visits offered to classrooms.

The Results

  • Ford’s Theatre became part of a worldwide platform, elevating the site’s visibility.
