Mexican Cultural Institute

I served as a freelance exhibition designer for an exhibition of contemporary fine art pottery, based on Indigenous precedents, from a northern Mexican city.

What I Did

Organized content

The staff gave me a list of the items the exhibition’s curator had selected, along with a list of case bases and vitrines. I created a numbering system to match bases, vitrines, and items, and laid them out in a floorplan based on how the curator desired to organize the material.

Designed graphics

Created wall panels and object labels, adapting the curator’s messaging and laying out the design.

Designed a student activity

I created a student scavenger hunt through the exhibition.

Designed advertising

I designed advertising for this and subsequent exhibitions.

The Results

  • The exhibition was a success.

  • The Mexican Cultural Institute used my numbering system for their exhibition case components for future exhibitions.

  • Mexican Cultural Institute asked me to do other light exhibition work on a freelance basis in subsequent years.
